Lecture: The Women’s Suffrage Movement in Photographs
Speaker: Allison K. Lange
In partnership with the Michigan Photographic Historical Society

Lange’s talk examines women’s rights activists like Sojourner Truth and Susan B. Anthony. They challenged popular cartoons that mocked female reformers by distributing photographs of respectable women in politics. By 1920, photographs had become essential to the suffragists’ visual campaign.
